Maryland State Police say Mellema refused to talk or negotiate with troopers until about 7 p.m., although there were no threats and no shots were fired. Meantime, Mellema's 44-year-old girlfriend, Patty Miller, was arrested by Littlestown police yesterday afternoon. The victim of the stabbing, 44-year-old James David Hull, remains in serious condition in York Hospital. Jurors Set To Resume Deliberations In DeWeese Trial
Jurors in the corruption trial of state Rep. Bill DeWeese are slated to begin a second day of deliberations. Dauphin County President Judge Todd Hoover instructed the seven-woman, five-man jury to reconvene this morning. DeWeese is the first sitting lawmaker to face trial as part of a five-year-old investigation by the state Attorney General's office that has resulted in the arrests of 25 people connected to the House Republican and Democratic caucuses. The 61-year-old DeWeese spent two decades in House leadership, including a stint as House speaker. Prosecutors say the Greene County Democrat illegally used taxpayer-paid employees to do political campaign work on state time. The Pennsylvania Department of Health says the Family Cow Store in Chambersburg had voluntarily suspended production. A message on the store's website says that its unpasteurized raw milk is third-party tested.
