Boost To Gettysburg Economy From Nearby G-8 Summit

Leaders from around the world are joining President Barack Obama for the Group of 8 summit at Camp David, just outside the Frederick County community of Thurmont and just a short drive south of Gettysburg. The weekend event is expected to boost business at Gettysburg area hotels and restaurants, as well as Gettysburg battlefield. In Thurmont, downtown merchants have spruced up their storefronts and decorated with U.S. flags in hopes that the hundreds of visitors expected Friday and Saturday will do some shopping and dining. Demonstrators focused on the global economic summit are expected in Thurmont and police have beefed up security. Maryland State Police will have an increased presence in the area around Camp David during the G-8 summit. School students in Frederick County have Friday off.
